2001 Teachers at Crossroads for Kids

Trip O'Dell (Roslindale, MA)
Trip studied Education Technology/Instructional
Design in the master's program at Fairfield University
after receiving his BA in Political Science from Xavier
University. He currently serves as the School Technologist
at Xaverian Brothers High School in Westwood, MA where
he is responsible for the training of all faculty and
staff in the use of classroom media and technology.
In addition to teaching several elective courses in
design for web and print, he has redesigned and currently
serves as webmaster of XBHS.com.
Previously, Trip was Department Head
and Teacher at Red Cloud Indian School on the Pine Ridge
Indian Reservation in South Dakota. While in that position,
Trip raised over $40,000 in cash, grants, and equipment
donations to develop and implement a state-of-the-art
multimedia and technology curriculum for high school
students in the most impoverished county in the US.
His students' work in digital media gained statewide
recognition; taking four first place prizes in the 2000
South Dakota State Media Fair.
Trip continues to be involved in his
community, currently acting as a mentor to at-risk teens
as part of the Centro de Cardinal Catholic Charities
in Boston.

Ellen Marie Murphy (Bennington,
VT)
Ellen holds a degree in Curriculum Design and Technology
and Vermont certification in Computers and English for
grades 5-8. She currently teaches Computer Applications
to Middle Level students at the largest Middle School
in Vermont where her curriculum includes Microsoft Office
2000, Photoshop and graphic design, Animation, HTML
and web designing. In addition, Ellen works with teachers
to integrate technology into their curricula.
Ellen's community involvement is considerable
and includes various mentoring groups and programs,
including the Vermont Millennium Art Project and the
Bennington Mentoring Consortium, which she Chairs. Additionally,
she is involved with OJJDP's Drug Free Communities,
Parent Task Force, School and Workforce Partnership;
coordinator for the Summer Youth Opportunity Program;
and host for several local television series.

Lars
Hasselblad Torres (Washington, DC)
An artist, writer and educator, Lars joined
WiredWoods in the summer of 2001 as a member of the teaching
team at Crossroads for Kids. Deeply excited about the
program and its impact on children, Lars remained a consultant
to WiredWoods, helping revise the curriculum, hire new
staff and train the 2002 teachers. In addition to his
work with WiredWoods, Lars is Program Associate and web
designer at AmericaSpeaks, a volunteer technology consultant
for the Center on Juvenile and Criminal Justice, volunteer
web instructor at the Booker T. Washington Public Charter
High School for Technical Arts, and founding principal
of tagstudio.net. Lars lives in Washington, DC with his
wife and baby daughter. |

Akesha
M. Horton (Gary, IN)
Akesha is currently completing her MS
degrees in Immersed Mediated Environments (Telecommunications)
and Instructional Systems Technologies (Education) at
Indiana University from which she holds a BA in Mathematics.
During her studies, Akesha has held various jobs at IU
including Web Manager for the Research and University
Graduate School, Intranet Manager for the Office of Student
Financial Aid and Associate Instructor in the Telecommunications
& Computer Science Department. Akesha has extensive
consulting experience as well; her portfolio can be seen

Beth Masi (Fairfield, CT)

Craig
Tremblay (Troy, OH)
Craig recently received his Bachelor of
Business Administration degree from Ohio University with
a major in Management Information Systems. During his
studies, Craig was a systems analyst for Ohio University's
MBA Alumni Association and a multi-year member of the
University Program Council. Active in his fraternity,
Delta Upsilon, Craig has held various offices, participated
in community events and helped create the group's web
site. Craig is currently looking for a full-time MIS opportunity.
