YOUTH TECH GURUS RECOGNIZED FOR IMPRESSIVE
USE OF COMPLEX SOFTWARE
WiredWoods Campers Demonstrate Self-Created
Web Sites at Annual
Tech Expo and Receive "Biggest Technology Feat"
Award
DUXBURY, Mass., December 24, 2001 - WiredWoods,
a computer-based curriculum that has been integrated into
traditional summer camp activities for Greater Boston's inner-city,
at-risk youth, participated in the Citizens School annual
Tech Expo, on Saturday, December 15. The expo showcased outstanding
work done by area youth who have mastered different aspects
of technology, and WiredWoods campers were awarded the "Biggest
Technological Feat" for mastering complex software packages,
including Photoshop and Dreamweaver, to create intricate Web
sites.
Graduates from last summer's WiredWoods program - joined by
their teachers and WiredWoods program director, Dana White
- presented the complex Web sites that they created collaboratively
while at Crossroads For Kids in Duxbury, MA. Crossroads For
Kids is the first overnight summer camp to integrate the WiredWoods
curriculum into its traditional activity offerings. Nearly
80 campers graduated from the elective activity this summer,
often changing their interest in computers from games and
downloading music to creating with software applications.
WiredWoods is a non-profit startup dedicated to getting low-income
middle school aged children hooked on technology, empowering
them to succeed in the digital age. Its goal is to marry the
utility of computers with the joy of summer camp to make a
strong, long-lasting impact on the lives of these children.
