On October 5th, 2002, we staged the annual WiredWoods
Connects reunion. This year, we hosted it with Yvette
Proenza at the Blue Hill Ave. Boys and Girls Club in
Dorchester, MA. Eleven of the 29 Boston campers from
2002 attended with 20 middle-school students in total
attending! Everyone is interested in other after camp
opportunities and was excited to meet our guests. Adetunji
Onamade and Danielle Martin from other Boys and Girls
Clubs, Felicia Vargas from TechBoston, Frank Hwang,
Dana White, counselor Yen Truong and Amy Moore from
WiredWoods also attended. When asked about after camp
events Kayla said, "It [WiredWoods event] doesn't
matter where as long as it's in Boston."

Holiday Multi-Media Extravaganza 2002

On December 14, 2002, our campers and friends braved
the torrential downpour outside to learn about Macromedia
Flash and create electronic holiday cards at the Boston
Neighborhood Network (BNN) Multimedia Center located
in the Roxbury Mall in Roxbury, MA. Hosts Nettrice
Gaskins and Derek Hixon showed the students the ropes
with this exciting new piece of software. Cards displayed
snowmen, trees, snowballs, snowflakes and other holiday
gear. Among the participants, we had 6 WiredWoods campers
in attendance, Deb Donohoe from Crossroads for Kids,
Frank Hwang, Dana White, Erika Butler from the YMCA
and 10 members of the Roxbury YMCA. We had a total
of 18 students in all.

New Bedford Technology Gathering 2002

On a beautiful but blustery cold day in January, 6
WiredWoods students and 2 CEDC students spent the morning
learning about digital photography and Adobe Photoshop.
Students focused on the center of New Bedford, taking
photographs of important city statues and buildings.
Frank Hwang taught the course and a few members of
the CEDC staff were also present, including Corinn
Williams. Students left the workshop with samples of
their amazing artwork.

February MicroCamp 2003

WiredWoods workshops seem to have some connection
to the weather. After the biggest snowstorm in quite
some time postponed MicroCamp, we started on February
19th, 2003. With much courage and after lots of digging,
6 WiredWoods students and 4 Boys and Girls Clubs members
learned about digital photography, Adobe Photoshop,
HTML coding and Adobe GoLive. Students were split into
teams, and each team focused on a different aspect
of “what Black History month meant to them.” Lars
Hasselblad Torres from 2001 was teaching. In support
were Murray Bass, Technology Director for the Roxbury
Boys and Girls Club and Frank Hwang. During the course
of the week, we had may visitors including: Lisa Radden
from TechBoston, Susan O’Connor from the Timothy
Smith Network, Andrea Swain, Michelle Joiner, Janice
Rymer, Peter Rosemond and Nikisha Hawkins from the
Roxbury clubhouse, Daphne Griffin from Boys and Girls
Clubs, Brett Macleod from Citizen Schools, and Michael
Fantom and Pat Cleary from Crossroads for Kids. Three
group websites were created that centered on Black
History and spanned the ages.
